2024-11-22 14:30:00 2024-11-22 17:00:00 OSU Computational Social Science Symposium In collaboration with the Decision Sciences Collaborative, TDAI is hosting a special symposium on computational social science.  This event will be held on Friday, November 22 in Pomerene Hall 320 from 2:30-5:00pm.  This aim of this event is to spotlight this burgeoning and exciting area of research, and to bring together researchers on campus with an eye toward enhancing awareness, dialogue, and collaboration.  The symposium will consist of a keynote speaker, faculty blitz talks, and a meet-and-greet reception.  Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Matthew Salganik of Princeton University.  He is a Professor of Sociology at Princeton University, and the award-winning author of the book Bit by Bit: Social Research in the Digital Age. He is one of world’s leading experts on computational social science.  His work has been published in journals such as Science, Nature, PNAS, Sociological Methodology, and Journal of the American Statistical Association. His papers have won the Outstanding Article Award from the Mathematical Sociology Section of the American Sociological Association (twice) and the Outstanding Statistical Application Award from the American Statistical Association. He is a recipient of the Leo Goodman Mid-Career Award, the William Ogburn Mid-Career Award, and the Outstanding Recent Alumni Award from the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences at Columbia University.   Faculty blitz speakers will include Mimi Brinberg (Communication), Julia Park  (Political Science), David Melamed (Sociology), and Janet Box-Steffensmeier (Political Science).  If you would be interested in meeting with Dr. Salganik earlier that day (i.e., 9-2pm), please email Samantha Lapka at lapka.3@osu.edu.  Pomerene Hall 320 America/New_York public
