TDAI and CulturaGo Enter Second Year of Research on AI-Assisted Skills Assessment

The Ohio State University’s Translational Data Analytics Institute (TDAI) and CulturaGo are entering a second year of collaboration to explore how artificial intelligence can help assess the transferable skills students develop through real-world experience.

The research uses structured, interview-style responses that give students an opportunity to explain their decisions and actions and reflect on what they learned. The team is developing approaches to scoring these qualitative responses against human-defined rubrics, complementing established assessment methods.

Building on a prototype developed during the first year, the next phase will compare AI-assisted scoring with human judgment and test its reliability and validity. The longer-term goal is to combine evidence from qualitative responses with other assessment formats, giving students, institutions and researchers a fuller understanding of human capabilities.

The collaboration includes Dr. Krishna Chaitanya Rao and the Ohio State team, alongside CulturaGo’s Head of Education, Dr. Marcello Francioni, Chief Product Officer Andries Bester and colleagues.

The work explores AI’s potential to support human judgment and deepen understanding of how students put their skills into practice.
