Professor & Chair, Division of Biostatistics, College of Public Health
I am a professor and chair of the Division of Biostatistics at The Ohio State University College of Public Health and a member of the Leukemia and Hematologic Malignancies Program at the OSUCCC – James. My research is focused on developing statistical methods and software capable of analyzing data from high throughput genomic experiments, with the goal of helping to advance our understanding of what causes cancer and develop innovative therapies that can improve patient outcomes.
Specifically, I develop machine-learning and penalized models for predicting ordinal, discrete and time-to-event responses. One of my recent studies identified a novel and prognostically relevant molecular signature for cytogenetically normal acute myeloid leukemia, which helps identify patient subgroups at risk for the disease. This finding was independent of the 2022 European LeukemiaNet genetic-risk stratification system.
I have co-authored more than 140 articles published in prestigious peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Clinical Oncology, the Journal of Hematology & Oncology, Nature Genetics, Cancer Research, the Journal of Biological Chemistry, Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, and Scientific Reports.
I have also presented my findings before well-respected organizations such as the National Library of Medicine, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, and the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences.
