Harvey Miller, TDAI affiliate and professor of Geographic Information Science, was recently featured on 10TV News. Miller discussed a study he co-authored that revealed a correlation between 311 calls and opiate use. “311” or “The Call Center” is the single point of contact for requesting all non-emergency City services and is available to residents, City businesses, and visitors. The same hotspots that contained overdoses matched the calls made to 311 often associated with community stress.

Miller said, “We can leverage this type of data in order to get new insights into the characteristics of our city.” He also stated that these insights can be turned into positive opportunities to create change in local communities.
