Xinmiao Zhang, core TDAI faculty member in ECE, has been elevated to the prestigious grade of IEEE Fellow in recognition of her outstanding contributions to error-correcting codes and VLSI implementations. 

Her recent research focuses on VLSI architecture design for error and erasure-correcting codes enabling hyper-speed and large-scale memory/distributed storage, homomorphic encryption, post-quantum cryptography, hardware security, and machine learning. Zhang’s past accomplishments include VLSI architectures to improve hardware efficiency of state-of-the-art error-correcting coding and cryptographic schemes, working on the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), authoring the book “VLSI Architectures for Modern Error-Correcting Codes”, and receiving more than 1000 citations on her AES work. 

Less than 0.1 percent of voting members are selected annually for this member grade elevation. This recognition by the IEEE Fellow Committee highlights Zhang’s exceptional leadership and influence in these critical areas of technology, which have made a significant impact in both industry and academia. As a recipient of this honor, Zhang joins an esteemed group of IEEE Fellows whose work continues to define the future for advancements in technology.
